Lisa Mustion is the visionary behind Family House Academy, which she established twenty years ago. She has been an educator for over thirty years now, and draws her inspiration from the students and families that she serves. In addition to starting Family House, her educational experiences include creating and implementing an inclusive preschool program in Castle Rock, Washington, becoming a special education director, teaching in classrooms for students in Kindergarten through twelfth grades, and receiving the Crystal Apple community teaching award in 2011.
Throughout her career, Lisa’s actions have always been motivated by the following philosophy: “If we educate a student, we impact one; if we educate a parent, we impact a family; if we educate a family, we impact the community.” In her free time, Lisa enjoys her lifelong hobbies of running, reading, and serving her community.
Constantly on the move, Megan Elam is an adventure-seeking twenty-three year old that recently graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences. She currently works at Family House Academy part-time, and is in the process of applying to graduate programs to further her education in the field of speech and hearing sciences. In her free time, she spends her time working as a barista and loves to expand her knowledge of coffee and latte art.
Tayler Mustion graduated from Gonzaga University with a Bachelor’s Degrees in English and Economics, and then went on to complete his Master’s in Teaching from the University of Southern California. This is Tayler’s fourth year as a teacher at Family House, where he instructs primarily literature classes. In his free time, Tayler enjoys spending time outdoors, watching and playing sports, reading and serving as a Young Life leader.
Mark Johnson has been teaching at Family House Academy for two years now, an opportunity that he says has helped him grow both as a person and an educator. Mark has six years of fire science experience and a passion for Emergency Medical Services which inspired his love for science. He enjoys spending his free time doing CrossFit, serving as a YoungLife leader, and spending time with his friends and family..
This is Chelsea’s third year at Family House Academy, where she works primarily as a kindergarten through second grade teacher. Additionally, she also enjoys working with the older students during history and science classes. When she is not at Family House Academy, you can find Chelsea at the gym or eating dinner with her grandpa at Mill City Grill.
Bree Pfaff has been a member of the Family House Academy community for three years now, where she started in a parental role after enrolling her daughter in the kindergarten program. Bree appreciated Family House’s holistic, community-oriented approach to education, and she joined the Family House Staff in the fall of 2014 and enrolled her younger son in the same year. Bree appreciates the growth her children have made while being a part of Family House Academy, and enjoys watching the young lives of all the students being transformed into empowered learners in their community who will forever change the future. Outside of the classroom, Bree enjoys humanitarian work, traveling, and spending time with her two children Lulu and Jaxon, who she considers her greatest accomplishment.
Sara Rosado has known she was a teacher ever since she was very little. She attended Moody Bible Institute in downtown Chicago, followed by California State University, Long Beach, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis on visual and performing arts education. She then went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Math Education from Walden University. Sara recently stepped out of her role as a full-time teacher in the classroom to focus on her primary teacher job, her own children. But she is blessed to continue learning and growing with the students at Family House Academy as the coordinator of the Accelerated Reading program. Sara also works full-time from home as a technical editor for a real-estate appraisal company, and enjoys baking, walking Lake Sacagawea, and outdoor adventures in her free time.
Mrs. Anne-Marie was born in Scotland and moved over to the US four years ago. Her husband’s name is Michael, and they live on the old west side in Longview, Washington. She loves teaching art and sharing her love of art with students. She knows they love it too when they ask to take work home, ask more questions, and share their art with her! She is an artist and recently started to sell her work online. She started running this year which is a big step forward for her. Lonnie Mustion has started his first year instructing music at Family House Academy. Lonnie has been a musician for 20 years, and he plays the guitar, bass, and piano. He has completed The American School of Lutherie with Charles Fox, and The National Stem Guitar Building Institute Class. He has brought a lot of enthusiasm into the classroom, and the students are loving his space. Lonnie also has years of coaching experience in football, track and basketball. He has been a wonderful addition to our crossfit coaching. Outside of the classroom, he enjoys hunting, fishing, exercise, and playing or building guitars. He is looking forward to each of the students finding their own tune this year!
